Wanstead Library was packed out on 25 Nov for the Climate and Environment Hustings organised by East London Humanists. The panel – John Cryer (Lab), Noshaba Khiljee (Con), Ashley Gunstock (Green) and Ben Sims (Lib Dem) – set out their respective platforms. They were quizzed by a 100 strong audience of local residents.
The candidates were left in no doubt about the importance the audience placed on urgent action being taken to tackle the climate and environment emergency.
There was a range of responses. However, the candidates were at one in expressing concern. Each candidate gave commitments to treat the issues with the seriousness they deserve. And before the meeting started local climate activists persuaded each to sign a climate action pledge.
